On May 7, 2009, Peking University Law School along with Peking University International Economic Law Institute (PKU-IELI) announced its five-year international economic law program. The majority of the funding for the five-year program is donated by Mr. Lee Kwok Tung (Samuel) for the purpose of providing education on Investment, Law, Research, and for awarding Scholarships to selected individuals enrolled at Peking University.

Professor Shao, Chairman of PKU-IELI said: "Peking University is the top educational institution in China; our students, lack the opportunity to practice investment and finance in addition to law. These programs combine both investment finance and law as they are interrelated and will really be instrumental to the participants of the program."

Mr. Zhu Suli, President of the Peking University Law School congratulated all those involved in the new International Economic Law Institute, praising its cooperative training program. He added: "IELI provides a platform for the globalization of the Chinese economy and law that is necessary for the development of China."

Mr. Samuel Lee, President of the Hedge Fund Association said: "Law makers normally have limited exposure in the field of global investment and finance. The International Economic Law Institute aspires to build a bridge to connect the theory and the practice in investment and in law. It warms my heart to give back to society, especially to students of Peking University – some of you will carry on the Peking University tradition upon graduation – and join the public services and be the next generation of China leadership."

The Peking University International Economic Law Institute (PKU-IELI) organizes seminars for professional lawyers, bank managers, fund managers; customizes seminars for companies; offers internships and scholarships and provides an investment trading platform (BeidaSim), exclusive to members affiliated with Peking University and PKU-IELI. PKU-IELI promotes research from scholars, industry leaders and students that are published by PKU Press.
